(Hesperia)– Each August, the nation celebrates National Health Center Week (NHCW) to recognize the outstanding contributions of services delivered by America’s Health Centers. As part of this campaign, August 11-17, 2013 the Hesperia Health Center will provide health resource events featuring a different health topic each day to raise awareness about the mission and accomplishments of Community Health Centers, also known as Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). The theme for this year’s NHCW is “Celebrating America’s Health Centers: Transforming Health Care in Our local Communities.”
America’s health centers like the Hesperia and Adelanto Health Centers serve as local solutions for affordable and accessible health care by:
• Reducing income and ethnic health disparities nationwide, even in the poorest and most challenged communities
• Producing $24 billion in annual health system savings
• Reducing unnecessary hospitalizations and unnecessary visits to the ER
• Generating a system of preventive medicine that patients use regularly to stay healthy, thus saving lives.
Join us each day at the Hesperia Health Center at 16453 Bear Valley Road, Hesperia CA 92345 from 9a.m. to 4p.m. to celebrate the essential work provided by our Health Centers in the High Desert Region of San Bernardino County. There will be face painting, giveaways, health literature, and more.
Health Centers provide a range of services onsite, such as, primary care services, pediatrics, immunizations, TB screening, HIV testing and care, in addition to maternal health services. “Our health centers provide our community’s members the ability to take charge of their health by expanding their health knowledge,” said Meaghan Ellis, Chief of Community Health Services/Health Center Director. “It is our intention that when a client seeks care from us they will not only feel better, but will also leave with educational tools that they themselves can use to improve their health and well-being.”
The County of San Bernardino Department of Public Health received a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Grant to expand the Hesperia Health Center by approximately 5,800 square feet. The $4,897,415 funding will pay for six additional examination rooms, an ADA compliant special procedures room, five nursing triage bays, radiology capabilities, dental services, a mental health consultation room, expansion of the existing on-site laboratory, a conference room, classroom space, and additional equipment.
