(Victorville)— Community leaders, chambers of commerce, parents, students, and more all came together for the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Taylion High Desert Academy (THDA) in Victorville.
The event commemorated the grand opening of the new charter school, which has locations in Victorville and Adelanto. With speeches from city officials, representatives for elected officials and more, the event also had fun for the family, with face painting and a bounce house available after the ceremony.
“We had representation from the Victorville Chamber, the Adelanto Chamber, the High Desert Hispanic Chamber, City Council Members from Victorville and Adelanto, and large number of community members as well,” said Danielle Moore, Executive Director of the charter school. “We were excited at the turn out and are proud to be able to present our school to the community. We are excited to get started next Wednesday, August 14th, and look forward to serving the community.”
Stephanie Laferriere, Director of Curriculum at THDA, expressed her appreciation for all those who attended the event. “We truly appreciative of everyone who attended today’s grand opening ceremony and open house event. We are very excited to get going with our K-12 Home School, Virtual School and Independent Study programs and honored to be a part of this community. We are looking forward to a great school year and we had a lot of fun at today’s event!”
Cari Thomas, Mayor of Adelanto, had this to say regarding the new school, “I think Taylion coming to Adelanto is just a step in the right direction for education in the city of Adelanto and in Victorville. The idea of having options for your youth, to be able to learn in a matter that works for them is a great opportunity for the students of the High Desert and definitely the students of Adelanto and I am excited they have chosen this site to come in to.
Taylion High Desert Academy is a free, public charter school for grades K-12, with offices in Victorville and Adelanto. With programs including independent study, home school, and a virtual academy, THDA offers a more individualized take on public education.
