(Apple Valley)– Several years ago, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department discovered that a large number of our citizens were unable to call 9-1-1 when they needed help because they could not afford a cell phone. In 2008 San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department joined forces with Secure the Call to help remedy this problem. Secure the Call is able to provide cell phones to seniors, abused women and soldiers thanks to cell phone drives like this one. Secure the Call will wipe the phones clean of the previous owner’s information and reprogram it to dial 9-1-1 only.
In an effort to support Secure the Call’s “Make a Difference Day,” Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station will be hosting a cell phone drive at our station. A secure cell phone receptacle will be located in our station lobby through October 26th, 2013. The Apple Valley Station is asking our citizens to please bring in your old cell phones and their chargers to the station at 14931 Dale Evans Pkwy, Apple Valley, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. through 5 p.m.
The Apple Valley Station has acquired, through Secure the Call, a limited number of cell phones that are available to seniors in our community. The only thing the recipient needs to do is keep the phone charged and remember to carry it with them. Seniors interested in obtaining a cell phone should contact Karen Hunt at the number above and be able to provide documentation that you reside in the Town of Apple Valley.
Please help us make this cell phone drive a huge success by donating your unused cell phones and corresponding phone chargers.
