(Victor Valley)– Yesterday, Rep. Paul Cook (R-Apple Valley) voted in support of H.Res 441. This resolution set America’s military priorities for next year to ensure our armed forces have the authorizations needed to keep us safe. This bill passed with overwhelming bipartisan support by a vote of 350-69.
Included in this legislation was a 1.8% pay raise for active duty military. Additionally, it ensures men and women in uniform will continue to be eligible for TRICARE Prime, reforms the military’s sexual assault policy, and prohibits any Base Closure and Realignment Commission (BRAC) activity for Fiscal Year 2014.
Said Cook, “I’m extremely pleased to see this measure pass. Our military has struggled with sequestration cuts, and this critical legislation will help prepare it to face new challenges. This increases national security and will allow our service members to carry out their mission. I’d like to thank the members of the Armed Services Committee for their hard work in getting this crucial bill done.”
H. Res. 441 will now go to the Senate for a final vote before being sent to the President.
A member of the House Armed Services, Veterans’ Affairs, and Foreign Affairs Committees, Cook served as an infantry officer and retired after 26 years as a Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps. During his time in combat, he was awarded the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.
