Status Check

By Staff Reports

(Victor Valley)– From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, I’m Ira Dreyfuss with HHS HealthBeat.

With modern drugs, HIV/AIDS is no longer the near-automatic death sentence it once was. But to know whether they need to get treatment, people have to know their HIV status – whether they have the virus.

At HHS’, Miguel Gomez:

“The most important thing people can do when it comes to HIV and AIDS is to get a test. We have treatments that allow people to live long and healthy lives, but you need to be diagnosed.”

To find a place to get tested, people can start by visiting the website and clicking on the “Service Locator” tab at the top. The site also can provide directions and transit information.

Gomez says the facilities found through the service locator also may provide other things besides tests, such as treatment and services.
