(Victor Valley)– Mark Guerrero – singer, songwriter, performer and music historian – will present “Cruisin’ on the Eastside with Mark Guerrero” at Cal State San Bernardino’s Santos Manuel Student Union on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
The program will run from noon to 2 p.m. in the Santos Manuel Student Union Theater. It is free and open to the public; parking at the university is $5 per vehicle.
Aficionados and fans of Chicano and Latin rock ‘n’ roll may already be familiar with Guerrero and his music, or may know the work his late father, Lalo, who is often referred to as the “father of Chicano music.” Mark Guerrero has worked with nearly every major name in the Chicano rock scene, as well as made a name for himself with his own recordings.
Guerrero, who has a degree in Chicano-Latino studies from Cal State Los Angeles, will explain the roots of Chicano music and the “Eastside” sound of East Los Angeles in the 1960s – from zoot suits, to old-school “lowrider” music, to rap and genres in between – and will include a slide show of performers who influenced the Los Angeles music scene. He will also perform some of his music.
Guerrero still performs and is a resident of Palm Springs. For more information on his music, his appearance schedule, his father and the history of Chicano rock, visit Mark Guerrero’s website <http://markguerrero.com> at http://markguerrero.com.
