(Victor Valley)– Monday, a bill designating a stretch of State Route 14 in Palmdale as the “Lance Corporal Javier Olvera Memorial Highway” made it one step closer to final passage, receiving unanimous support in the Assembly Transportation Committee.
Senate Concurrent Resolution (SCR) 60, authored by Senator Steve Knight (R-Antelope Valley,) seeks to memorialize Lance Corporal Javier Olvera, a 20 year-old marine who lost his life on a tour of duty near the Pakistani border in 2009 by designating a portion of State Route 14 in his name.
“Lance Corporal Javier Olvera’s bravery will be remembered as we honor a true hero,” said Senator Knight.
Commencing with his first tour of duty in Iraq in 2007, Lance Corporal Olvera served in the highly dangerous roll of rifleman and Radio Operator. His compassion towards others was well known among his peers both in the Antelope Valley and overseas. By memorializing a portion of Highway 14 in honor of this young soldier, we will always remember the cost of freedom and the bravery of those individuals fighting to protect it.
SCR 60 will next be heard on the Assembly Floor where it will need 41 votes to be enacted.
