Wild Animal Awareness in the High Desert

By Staff Reports

(Hesperia)– It is important to remember that we share our desert community with a variety of wild animals native to the area, including bobcats. Bobcats are common to the high desert and while they are solitary animals, they may venture into neighborhoods when hungry. Please keep yourself and your pets safe by following these wild animal safety tips:

  • Keep small pets indoors at night;
  • Before letting pets out in the yard, turn on outside lighting and make noise, giving a wild animal the opportunity to leave the area;
  • Do not leave bowls of water or food outside;

If you spot a bobcat or mountain lion, do not approach or attempt to catch the animal. Notify the Animal Control immediately by calling 760.947.1707.
