The contest was through Rotary District 5300, and was held at the club level. The winner goes on to participate in the group level, then from there can move to the regional and district levels, competing for prizes between $1,000-$5,000.

Speakers for the 4-way speech contest included:

Linda Pack, India Owens, Annie Tsai, Daisy Alvarado and Alayzha Windsor-McCoy.

What is the 4-Way Test?

The Rotary 4-Way Test is the guiding principles that Rotary is built upon.

  1. The 4-Way test is composed of the following: Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Students were judged on four criterias: personal qualities, organization, presentation and effectiveness. The winner was Alayzha Windsor-McCoy, a student from Adelanto High School. She came in first place, out of the five students who participated in the competition. Adelanto High School staff Dr. Janice Betian was present for the event and spoke about Alayzha’s speech.

“I am really excited for Alayzha to win this award. She was here last year and I believe she won third place, but she was very excited to come again and try, and she won, so it’s pretty cool. It’s really awesome for Adelanto. We are moving to our new high school this year, so this is one of the first things we can put up at the school.”

“I am overwhelmed right now,” said Alayzha, moments after be announced as the winner. “There are a lot of thoughts going through my head. I didn’t think I was going to place, since I had such little time to prepare for it, but God is good.”

Since the Adelanto Rotary Club is brand new to the Adelanto Community, current Rotary President Stephanie La Ferriere stated “we are very excited to be a part of the Adelanto Community and I am very excited that all of these students came here today, prepared, energetic and sincere. This was the 1st ever 4-Way Speech contest that we have had and every one of these students were truly impressive.”
