(Hesperia)– Robert McCollum, Jodi Consten, and David Cain presented the Unit of Study to the Hesperia Unified School District Board. The Board worked on a live document, just as teachers do, grappling with big ideas related to the role of school board member.
The Unit of Study is the template that HUSD teachers are using to collaborate in their PLC groups, building a repository of curriculum, instructional methods, and assessments that meet the learning needs of students and the transition to the new state standards. The online units are accessible from any internet connection, at any time, allowing teachers to collaborate even outside of a physical meeting. Its production revolves around the PLC questions of “What do my students need to know and be able to do?,” “How will I measure it?”, “What will I do if they do not learn it the way or as quickly as I thought?,” and “What will I do if they learn it quickly or already know it?” and validates the professionalism of teachers who know their subjects and students best.
