(Victor Valley)– The County of San Bernardino Department of Public Health, Preparedness and Response Program is hosting a Healthcare Surge Planning Summit for local healthcare agencies on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. The goal of the summit is to address surge capacity planning within the countywide healthcare delivery system to quickly mobilize and expand beyond normal levels of services to meet the increased demand for personnel, medical supplies, and patient beds during a public health emergency, such as pandemic influenza or bioterrorism.
During a healthcare surge, healthcare facilities will be in need of necessary resources to provide care to patients. The Summit will provide an opportunity for community-based planning which supports a coordinated response to the healthcare system for sharing medical resources. The objectives of the one day Healthcare Surge Planning Summit are the following:
· Review the County’s Surge Capacity Plan
· Discuss plans for Government-Authorized Alternate Care Sites (GAACS) and its relation to healthcare surge
· Review the agreement process for partnering with the Department of Public Health
· Learn the resource-requesting process during a public health emergency
