Donating The Difference

By Staff Reports

(Victor Valley)– From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, I’m Ira Dreyfuss with HHS HealthBeat.

Donating can make a difference between someone’s good health and bad; between life and death. But this donation isn’t money. A person who donates organs can save up to eight lives. Organ donation last year made more than 28,000 transplants possible. Another 1 million people received tissue to help them recover from such things as bone damage and vision loss.

HHS’ assistant secretary for health, Dr. Howard Koh, says organ donation changes lives:

“I’ve had the great privilege of meeting donor families and recipients around the country. And when you see how one donation can make a difference, it’s a very powerful experience. It stays with you forever.”

Koh says anyone can sign up to be a donor, it’s easy. For instance, people can sign up through their motor vehicle offices or online.
