(Victorville) – Prem Reddy, MD, FACC, FCCP, Chairman, President and CEO of Prime Healthcare Services and founder of the Dr. Prem Reddy Family Foundation, has committed $2 million to help Victor Valley College complete the construction and equipping of a new health and sciences building set to break ground next month. The gift will be the single largest donation in the college’s 53 year history. In recognition of Dr. Reddy’s generosity, the college elected to name the new facility in his honor, calling it the Dr. Prem Reddy Health and Sciences Building.
“The students who attend Victor Valley College and use these facilities are the workers of tomorrow, and without qualified and dedicated nurses, the healthcare system would collapse,” Dr. Reddy said. “I’m fortunate enough to help and do because I know how critically important it is.”
The new 22,000 square foot Dr. Prem Reddy Health and Sciences Building is coming to the college’s upper campus adjacent to the existing science building. It will feature four science laboratories – two life science and two physical science – as well as new classrooms and lab facilities for healthcare and nursing programs. The building will improve the college’s already strong health science instruction by adding dedicated skills and simulation labs in five healthcare specialties: OB/Gyn, Pediatrics, Intensive Care Unit, Medical/Surgical Patient Rooms and Psychology. Construction on the building is expected to begin in June of this year and be completed by December 2015.
“Dr. Prem Reddy’s friendship with Victor Valley College has already helped thousands of our students to build better lives. His gift now is helping us to strengthen our programs with better facilities that will serve countless more,” said Peter Allan, Victor Valley College Superintendent/President. “We are proud to recognize him with the naming of the Dr. Prem Reddy Health and Sciences Building.”
Dr. Reddy has been a long-time benefactor of the college, contributing more than $5 million to support student scholarships, important equipment purchases and the expansion of capacity in VVC’s high demand nursing program. A decade ago, he donated $1 million to bolster programming in several allied health subjects and the college honored him by creating the Dr. Prem Reddy School of Health Sciences, an academic umbrella which unites the several healthcare programs. These include nursing, respiratory therapy, paramedic /EMT, and allied health.
The Victor Valley College Board of Trustees accepted his latest gift and authorized the permanent naming of the new building at its April 8, 2014 meeting. The Victor Valley College Foundation facilitated the donation and recommended naming recognition.
“We have been fortunate to help Dr. Reddy connect his passion for higher education with opportunities to change the lives of students here in his hometown,” said Don Brown, President of the Victor Valley College Foundation. “His gifts are true investments in the health and vitality of our entire region.”
The contribution will be made through the Dr. Prem Reddy Family Foundation which he and his family established in 1986. The Foundation provides scholarships, supports public healthcare education and free community clinics. Additionally, the Prime Healthcare Foundation was founded and entirely funded by Dr. Reddy and his family with current assets of over $700 million. It owns six non-profit acute care hospitals both in California and Texas, which are considered community assets.
