(Victor Valley) — Lupe Fiasco, a Grammy award winning rapper, is scheduled to appear in concert at Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday, May 31, at 8 p.m. at Coussoulis Arena.
CSUSB’S Associated Students Inc. and the Coussoulis Arena are sponsoring the event.
Lupe Fiasco, born Wasalu Muhammad Jaco in Chicago, started rapping in the eighth grade. In September 2006 he released his debut album, “Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor.” The album was nominated for three Grammy Awards.
At 19, Lupe joined his first group, Da Pak. The group signed a deal with Epic Records and released one single before splitting up. Later, he started his own label, “1st & 15th Entertainment,” and eventually signed a deal with Atlantic Records, which is the parent label of “1st & 15th.”
His second album, “Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool,” was released at the end of 2007 and the debut single, “Superstar,” was used in the HBO series, “Hard Knocks.” Fiasco’s third album, “Lasers,” was released in March 2011. “Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Part. 1,” was released in 2012.
Fiasco’s upcoming fifth album, “Tetsuo & Youth,” is set to release sometime in 2014.
As part of Fiasco’s upcoming CSUSB concert, on May 6, ASI held a contest “Behind the Decks: DJ Battle.” Three DJs competed for the chance to open for Fiasco, and Walter Martinez, also known as DJ WALL_E, won.
Tickets for Lupe Fiasco are on sale now at the Coussoulis Arena box office, HP 121, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Prices are $40 for non-students and $35 for CSUSB students with a current CSUSB student ID, which is also required for admission. If the concert does not sell out before show time, tickets will also be available at the door.
