Banner Recruiting Season for VVC as Tizzard Signs with Delaware State

By Staff Reports

(Victorville)– Victor Valley College’s football team has capped off a banner recruiting season with VVC Ram’s Football lineman Jacob Tizzard signing a scholarship offer from Delaware State.

Shortly after his twentieth birthday last April, Tizzard received a phone call from Jeff Braxton – Defensive Line Coach with Delaware State’s Hornets Football team letting him know that he was “in.” This came as a relief after months of playing the waiting game on hearing back from the university with the idea of getting the scholarship beginning to fall through.

“I’m just completely excited about the whole thing,” said Tizzard. “I’ve been working at this for years and all of it just goes to show that hard work really does pay off.”

The young athlete recently graduated from VVC last May with an A.S. in Social & Behavioral Science where he also played for the Ram’s Football team under coach David Hoover.  Tizzard will be starting his journey at Delaware State this upcoming August as he’ll be placed right into the Hornets’ training camp and working on the tentative placement as Defensive End. During his stay there, he plans on majoring in either English or Criminal Justice where he might fulfill the other half of his dream goals and become a Police Officer.

“If I could do it, anyone else can as long as they put their all into it,” said Tizzard.

Before Tizzard came to VVC, he attended Apple Valley High School where he was named “All-League” in his last two years of attendance: All-League Offensive Lineman 2010; and Lineman of the Year 2011. The Ram’s Lineman stands tall at 6’1” with a solid 205-pounds of force that can run the 40 in 4.6 while maintaining a strong 3.6 GPA in his overall academics – both at AVHS and VVC.

Tizzard is the 10th 2014 signee along with nine additional signees for the year, which included:

LB Jimmy Musgrave – University of Texas, El Paso

OL Charles Mouton – Tennessee State

DL Joe Lealofi – Union College

WR Nick Young – Troy State

WR Kyle Keplinger – Union College

DE Cailyn Patton – Dickinson State

RB Derrick Ponder – Henderson State

WR Charles MacNeil – Ottawa College

LM Sam Tate – Mesa State
