(Apple Valley)– The Apple Valley Sunset Concert will have a Latin flair when local band Latin Express takes the stage on Thursday, August 7.
Formed more than 40 years ago by Victor Valley High School graduate Johnny Camarena, the band has earned a huge following of fans from all over Southern California. Although Johnny no longer plays in the band, his children have carried on the tradition and continue to make the band a staple of High Desert performances.
Camarena said that although their name implies that they are a Latin band, he emphasized that the band is made up of people from many cultures. Their music reflects that diversity by incorporating old school, funk, pop and top 40 tunes that often draws three generations of fans at their concerts.
Latin Express will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Apple Valley Civic Center Amphitheater thanks to presenting sponsor Heritage Victor Valley Medical Group and band sponsor Roberta L. Taylor and Associates. The concert will also feature an array of food choices and a beer garden. The park has inclined lawn seating, so concert goers should bring blankets or portable chairs. No pets are allowed in the concert seating area and smoking is strictly prohibited in any town parks.
The Sunset Concert Series will conclude on August 14 with a concert by Lady and the Tramps.
Civic Center Park is adjacent to Apple Valley Town Hall and across from Super Target in the Apple Valley Commons shopping center. Parking and admission are free. Visit www.AppleValleyEvents.org or call (760) 240-7000 x 7072 for more information.
