Car Donation to Help Military Family with Infant on Daily Kidney Dialysis

By Staff Reports

(Victor Valley)–  A U.S. Navy sailor and his family have been selected to receive a newly-refurbished vehicle to help with frequent hospital trips for kidney dialysis and medical treatment for their infant daughter.

Brandon Walker and his family will receive a practically brand-new 2012 Toyota Corolla from Caliber Collision and Esurance as part of the nationwide Recycled RidesTM Program in which collision repairers, insurers and others in the industry team up to provide vehicles to families in need.

An aviation electrician, Brandon Walker was stationed in Japan when their second daughter was born seven months ago.  A difficult birth resulted in kidney and brain damage and now requires kidney dialysis every night for 12 hours.  Kyla, Brandon’s wife, will be donating one of her kidneys to her daughter. The Walkers do not currently have a working vehicle and have to rely on public transportation or family and friends for their daughter’s medical needs. Brandon was nominated by the Support The Enlisted Project (STEP).

Caliber Collision associates at the Rancho Cucamonga location volunteered personal time to refurbish the vehicle from Esurance as another way to help restore the rhythm of life for the Walker family. Local businesses and organizations in the Rancho Cucamonga community also contributed to the Recycled Rides program by donating gift items for the family.

“Lack of reliable transportation is challenging enough on a daily basis but especially difficult with the added burden of critical medical care,” said David Goldstein, Caliber Collision Senior Vice President of Operations. “We are pleased to provide this Recycled Rides vehicle as a thank you to Brandon Walker for his dedicated service to our country.”

“We are happy to partner with Caliber Collision on the Recycled Rides program to help ease the transportation burden for the Walkers so they can focus on getting the best medical care possible for their daughter,” said Joe Laurentino, Esurance Vice President of Material Damage.

This Caliber Collision Recycled Ride gifting represents the11th gifting of refurbished vehicles across the western U.S. in 2014.  Caliber Collision plans on gifting up to 25 vehicles over 2014 to military and first responders as a way to give back to the communities that Caliber serves.
