(Apple Valley)– Taste your way through champion and community cooks, as the Rotary Club of Apple Valley teams up again with the Town of Apple Valley and Victorville Motors to present this popular event on Saturday, October 18.
An expanded Fall Festival area for families will feature more inflatables and “Paint A Truck” – where kids of all ages can take a paintbrush to an actual pick-up truck. Victorville Motors will be on hand with the “Ram It Forward” test drive program, raising money for local FFA programs. There is also a horseshoe tournament, with sign-ins beginning at 10 and play at 11 a.m.
Of course, the main attraction is the chili. Local businesses, clubs and individuals are encouraged to throw their aprons into the running to win the “community cooks” division. In addition, more than 40 professional cooks will compete in the International Chili Society sanctioned division of the cook off. Winners qualify to move on to the 2015 World Championships.
The public is invited to taste and shop their way through booths of chili cooks and vendors. Additional food vendors will be on hand, as well as a beer garden.
Held at Lenny Brewster Sports Center at 21024 Otoe Road, gates are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the best chili selection between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Chili tasting can be extremely limited later in the afternoon. Cost is $5 per adult, with kids 10 and under free if they are not tasting. Paid admission includes a tasting kit with ballots to vote for the People’s Choice.
