(Victor Valley) – California State University, San Bernardino will honor veterans who have served their country with separate events on two days this week.
Today, Wednesday, Nov. 12, the university will celebrate Veterans Day with a “funny” race car and driver event on the south lawn of the Pfau Library from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Sponsored by CSUSB’s Recreational Sports, the Army ROTC Coyote Battalion and the Veterans Success Center, the celebration will include Army-themed giveaways by the ROTC, Scantron test sheets and pencils from VSC, and a free luncheon and T-shirts for vets by the Recreational Sports department.
A veterans’ appreciation luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Veterans Success Center in the lower level of the Coyote Bookstore.
In addition, on Friday, Nov. 14, the Veterans Success Center will host the United States Marine Corps Ball in honor of the 239th birthday of the Marines.
The event, which is free, will be held in the Cal State San Bernardino Obershaw Dining Room from 6-9 p.m. Formal or semi-formal wear is optional.
Festivities include the presentation of colors by the Fontana High School Marine Corps JROTC, an invocation by Chaplain Maj. David Sarmiento of the 163rd Reconnaissance Wing, California Air National Guard, and a tribute to the Table of the Fallen.
Dinner and a cake-cutting ceremony will follow, with entertainment by Vaughn Fahie Jazz. The keynote address will be given by Mac McClain, president, Semper Fi No. 1, Memorial Honor Detail.
Other sponsors of the USMC Ball include the CSUSB Student Veterans Organization and the USO.
