(Victor Valley) – Supervisor Curt Hagman announced, the appointment of Paul Vargas to the Children and Families Commission (First 5). The Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to confirm the appointment, Tuesday morning, during their regularly scheduled meeting.
Paul Vargas, of Upland, is a life–long educator and former teacher. He previously served as a board member for the Whittier City School District, and is a founding member and board member of Oxford Preparatory Academy, which is recognized as the #1 Charter School System in CA. Paul has also been involved with numerous organizations related to child development, including the California Center for Parent Empowerment.
Supervisor Hagman commented, “Paul has an extensive background in education, I am confident that he will faithfully carry out the important goal of providing services to children and parents in San Bernardino County.”
The Children and Families Commission is comprised of 7 members. Commissioners are appointed by the Board of Supervisors and a serve a total of two years.
FIRST5 currently contracts with over 50 agencies to provide direct services to young children and their families throughout the county. These programs include childcare and child development, parent education and family support as well as health services.
Supervisor Curt Hagman was elected in November 2014 to represent the Fourth District, which includes the cities of Chino, Chino Hills, Ontario, Montclair and Upland (partial).
