Town of Apple Valley to Host Mayor’s Weight Loss Challenge

(Apple Valley)– Mayor Larry Cusack is challenging the citizens of Apple Valley to lose weight and win money, HIS money! The Mayor’s Weight Loss Challenge, under the umbrella of Healthy Apple Valley, will bring the first ever community-wide weight loss challenge to Apple Valley.

Initial weigh in is Tuesday, February 24, with the kick off ceremony at this year’s Heart Games on February 28 at Civic Center Park. Required weigh-ins will be held on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Final weigh in is June 23, and the winners will be announced at the first Sunset Concert of the season on June 25.  The top three people losing the highest percentage loss of their starting body weight will win up to $1000 in cash.

“I am challenging all residents of Apple Valley to compete against me for the first place prize”, says Mayor Larry Cusack. “My goal this year is to lead by example in embracing the objectives of our Healthy Apple Valley program. Let’s get healthy together!”

Mayor Cusack invites the public, whether participating in the Challenge or not, to join him for “Walk with the Mayor” on the third Wednesdays of each month, March – June. He will meet at 7 a.m. at various locations, starting March 18 at Civic Center Park.

Mayor Cusack has donated $1,000 of his own money as the first place prize.  Top Notch Networking has donated $500 for second place, and $250 from St. Joseph Health, St. Mary’s will go to the third place winner. All contestants who reach milestones such as weighing in each time, losing 5% body weight and 10% body weight will be eligible for incentive gifts and drawings along the way, including a FitBit fitness monitor, free gym memberships and other great prizes.
