(Victor Valley)– At approximately 11:27 pm on Friday evening, the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to an emergency childbirth on the I-15 south of Cleghorn.
Firefighters from Fire Station 2 located in Devore arrived first on scene to find a 30 year old female who was in active labor on the side of the freeway, and immediately determined that delivery of the baby was imminent. Despite a few challenges including high speed freeway traffic, poor lighting, and the umbilical cord being wrapped around the infant’s neck, our Firefighter Paramedics delivered a healthy baby girl in the back of the family’s small SUV within seven minutes of their arrival.
The mother, father, and baby girl were safely transported by ambulance to the hospital, and are all doing well.
San Bernardino County Fire reminds motorists to safely slow down, pull to the right, and stop whenever they see emergency vehicles approaching. We might be on our way to deliver another baby!
