(Victorville)– On Tuesday, March 24th, Victor Valley College will host its fifth annual Women’s History Month Celebration and Conference.  This free one day conference brings together a multi-generational, multi-cultural group of women in order to share resources, create connections and celebrate the achievements of women in their roles as moms and daughters, students and business women, service women and caretakers.

This year’s event promises an exciting line-up of workshops beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Student Activities Center to educate and empower our female population.  Sessions taught by dynamic professional women will help students discover their inner beauty and strength as well as ways to enrich their lives and build a professional image.

“Many of our students didn’t have role-models in their lives to prepare them for success in school or even an interview for a potential job,” said Eartha Johnson, Victor Valley College Counselor and Conference Coordinator. “We are looking forward to watching our student’s blossom from this experience as well as gain valuable insight from this year’s seminar.”

Two female students will be selected this year to receive a full head to toe makeover. Thanks to a generous contribution from Macy’s Department Stores, both will receive stylish attire that will definitely make a good first impression in front of a potential employer.

“When we heard about the women’s self-improvement workshop at Victor Valley College we knew this was an important event that supported Macy’s long standing philosophy of giving back to our community,” said Media Relations Manager, Rosemarie Robles. “Today’s styles allow our customers the freedom to express their personalities, all while keeping it professional, neat, and pulled together.”

A representative from Macy’s will spend a few hours with the lucky students selecting pieces to not only freshen up their wardrobes but also advise them how to select clothing that will fit within their budgets and stay relevant in the future.

After a hair consultation provided by Vanity Hair Salon in Apple Valley both students will have a “before and after” reveal demonstrating to other conference goers a professional image can be a powerful tool.

Other day’s activities include a luncheon with a Speaker Panel Discussion focusing on professional journeys, lessons learned and building self-esteem.  The afternoon agenda invites attendees to attend Beauty & Well-being consultations as well as Self-Defense and Zumba classes. (2:00 pm – 4:00 pm).

Macy’s contributions in 2013 totaled more than $73 million from the company, from employees through workplace giving campaigns and from customers through cause-related giving programs.  In addition, associates gave more than 134,000 hours of their personal time in community service.
