(Victorville) – In the spotlight of the Victor Valley College Foundation’s 40th Anniversary, Eric Schmidt will accept the gavel to become the organization’s 16th President.  Schmidt, a strong advocate for education, will lead the Foundation’s efforts to make higher education opportunities more accessible and more robust at Victor Valley College.

“Education is the key that will unlock economic prosperity for our region and its residents,” said Schmidt. “Given that state funding is inadequate to meet the educational needs of our communities, the Foundation plays a pivotal role in our future. The donations and partnerships this organization develops make a big difference and I am honored to be part of the team.”

Schmidt, who currently serves as the Mayor of Hesperia and is the President of local aerospace company Exquadrum, Inc., took over as President of the Victor Valley College Foundation on July 1st, but will be ceremonially installed on July 9th by San Bernardino County Superior Court Commissioner James Bruce Minton.  Schmidt has been an active member of the Victor Valley College Foundation Board of Directors since 2012. He recently completed a term as a Vice President for the organization during which time he has worked to reenergize the Friends of the Foundation, welcomed new donors, and helped to secure a $15 million grant that will streamline career pathways in the region.

Joining Schmidt in new leadership roles for the Foundation, Norm Hurst (retired) and Mike Nutter (ISU Insurance ARMAC Agency) both advanced to fill Vice President positions.  Also being installed this Thursday as officers to lead the Foundation Board for the 2015-2016 year are Peter Allan, Don Brown, Frank Robinson, Roger Wagner, Donna Wells, and Caroll Yule.  Three new board members, Lorrie Denson, Fred Hunter, and Shannon Shannon, and six returning directors will also take an oath to govern and advance the organization.

The official ceremony will occur in the Victor Valley College Performing Arts Center at 10am on Thursday, July 9, 2015.  It will be preceded by the Foundation’s 40th Anniversary Donor Impact Expo which begins at 7am.  Both events are open to the public.
