(Victorville)– Three new members will raise their hands to take the official oath of office and join the influential Victor Valley College Foundation Board of Directors during the organization’s 40th Anniversary and Installation program on July 9th. The Foundation is led by a Board of 33 members who work to advance higher education opportunities available through Victor Valley College. One third of the board is appointed each year.
Joining the board to serve three year terms beginning July 1, 2015 and ending June 30, 2018 are Lorrie Denson, Fred Hunter, and Shannon Shannon.
“While I was a trustee, I saw the Foundation do amazing work,” said Denson. “I love this college and am excited to start a new adventure in supporting its mission to Cultivate, Create, Embrace, Inspire and Empower.”
Lorrie Denson is an educator who is also the founding first lady of the Burning Bush Church in Victorville. She served as an elected member of the Victor Valley College Board of Trustees from 2010-2014 leading this governing board as its President from 2012-2013.
“I have very much appreciated the opportunity to support the Foundation in my capacity as a donor and partner,” said Hunter. “Joining the Board of Directors for this fine organization and contributing more actively to its important work is an honor for me.”
Fred Hunter is the CEO of Desert Valley Hospital which is consistently one of the Foundation’s largest sponsors. He is a graduate of a community college nursing program with a strong affinity for the college mission.
“The Foundation plays an important role in supporting our College. I’ve seen it first hand in my years of involvement and as a new board member look forward to doing more to help students gain access to and find success at Victor Valley College,” said Shannon.
Shannon Shannon is a reverse mortgage consultant with Inbanet and is the immediate past Chairman of the Board for the Hesperia Chamber of Commerce. Shannon has been a President’s Circle Member and volunteer on the Foundation’s Campus Grants Committee for several years.
Reelected to the Foundation Board and joining Denson, Hunter, and Shannon for new terms are Craig Garrick, Mike Nutter, Deedee Orta, Frank Robinson, Eric Schmidt, Bill Scott, Paul Stanton, and Caroll Yule.
Each year in March nominations for the board are open to anyone who feels they are able to help advance the Foundation’s mission. All interested nominees are required to attend an orientation to fully understand the responsibility of board service. A slate of candidates willing to accept the duty is presented to the board each May. Board members all agree to be donors themselves, to steward the gifts of other donors, to solicit support for educational initiatives and to provide governance in the form of policies and priorities for the Foundation.
The Victor Valley College Foundation is a resource development and public relations partner working to help Victor Valley College advance its mission.
