Victorville Animal Control Offers Tips on Keeping Pets Safe on the Fourth of July

VVlogo1By Staff Reports

(Victorville)—July 5th is usually one of  the busiest days for stray dogs, because many animals are frightened at night by the noise and lights from July 4th fireworks and escape from yards or homes.

The City of Victorville Animal Care & Control Officers will be working on Sunday, July 5th responding to reports of loose dogs.  They will also pick up stray dogs which have been contained.  The number to report a lost or found dog in Victorville is (760) 955-5089.

To prevent run-away or escaped animals on July 4th, Animal Care & Control suggests keeping dogs inside the home or garage, if possible, or housed in a kennel during the times that fireworks occur.

Please make certain your pet is wearing its collar and tags.  A microchip is the best method to ensure your pet’s safe return.

Lost pets can be reclaimed at the Victor Valley Animal Protective League on Tuesday, July 7th.  The Victor Valley Animal Protective league is located 21779 Zuni Rd, Apple Valley.  The location is closed every Sunday and Monday, and can be reached at (760) 247-2102.

Victorville Animal Care & Control also reminds residents to protect pets from the summer heat.  If a dog must be left outdoors during hot temperatures, owners must make sure to provide food, water and shelter from the sun.
