(Victor Valley)– The High Desert Health Centers, Hesperia and Adelanto, are inviting the community to celebrate National Health Center Week with several activities. The County Board of Supervisors adopted a proclamation on Aug. 20, 2013 recognizing this national event. This year the campaign will be celebrated during the week of Aug. 9 through 15. The Health Centers will host health resource workshops, featuring different health topics each day to raise awareness about the mission and accomplishments of Community Health Centers, also known as Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). The theme for this year’s NHCW is “America’s Health Centers” Celebrating Our Legacy, Shaping Our Future.”
The community is invited from Aug. 10 through Aug. 13, to the Hesperia Health Center at 16453 Bear Valley Road from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Adelanto Health Center at 11336 Bartlett Avenue Suite 11, from 2 to 5 p.m. to celebrate the work provided by the health centers in the High Desert Region. There will be activities such as face painting and coloring for kids and participating agencies will have informational materials and incentives to share with attendees.
“Every day in our waiting rooms, I witness the value of having a patient-centered health care home,” said Dr. Meaghan Ellis, Chief of Community Health and Nursing Services. “When people have a place to go for regular care, they use it and stay healthier. Our patients have access to the care they need in an environment that is respectful and focused on the individual needs of the patient. This is what health care should be, and what we celebrate during National Health Center Week.”
The Public Health clinics and health centers provide a range of services onsite – primary care, pediatrics, immunizations, reproductive health, mental health, tuberculosis (TB) screening, HIV testing and care, in addition to maternal health services.
This community event is in line with the Countywide Vision to develop healthy communities.
