3rd Annual High Desert Health Summit Focused on Health and our Environment

(Victorville) – Healthy High Desert presented its 3rd Annual High Desert Health Summit, on Wednesday, September 23 at the Hilton Garden Inn Conference Center in Victorville. The theme for this year’s Summit was Our Health and Our Environment. The Summit featured a diverse array of information geared specifically towards residents of the High Desert.

The invitation-only event included presentations on the health needs in the High Desert, how policy can affect health, and local programs that provide active living opportunities, as well as the local food movement, active transportation grants, and Safe Routes to Schools. The county’s new Community Transformation Plan was also discussed. Mayor Larry Cusack of Apple Valley and Mayor Eric Schmidt of Hesperia were featured speakers.

Additionally, Healthy High Desert presented Awards of Excellence to organizations that have demonstrated significant support for a healthy High Desert environment.

The 3rd Annual High Desert Health Summit was sponsored by the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District, Victor Valley Global Medical Center, Molina Healthcare, City of Victorville, Desert Valley Hospital, IEHP, St. Joseph Health, St. Mary, City of Hesperia and Kaiser Permanente.

Healthy High Desert is a group of organizations in the High Desert region, organized to improve the health of High Desert residents and provide a platform for:

  • Creating a safe, healthy community for all residents
  • Supporting local Healthy City Initiatives
  • Exploring key health-related issues
  • Developing peer support and learning relationships
  • Developing opportunities for collaboration
  • Creating joint funding appeals
  • Advocacy and public education

About Healthy High Desert

Healthy High Desert is a collaborative organized to improve the health of High Desert residents and provide a platform for collective action. Healthy High Desert is led by a Steering Committee made up of representatives from: City of Adelanto, Town of Apple Valley, City of Hesperia, City of Victorville, Desert Valley Hospital, Kaiser Permanente, St. Joseph Health – St. Mary, Victor Valley Global Medical Center, High Desert Community Foundation, Academy for Grassroots Organizations and High Desert Resource Network, County of San Bernardino-First District Supervisor’s Office, Department of Public Health, Superintendent of Schools, and the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District.
