Ducks Diary- November 16th-22nd

(Victor Valley)– After a 4-1 loss to the New York Islanders, the Anaheim Ducks hit the road for four away games with hopes of regaining some steam. They would take 2 of the four games heading into this week.

November 16th- Versus Carolina Hurricanes

With the first of a string of road games, Anaheim struck first, as Shawn Horcoff scored at 11:23 in the first period, with assists from Hagelin and Cogliano. At 3:38 in the 2nd, Carolina would tie the game at 1-1 when Noah Hanifin scored with Nordstrom and Faulk on assists. That would be the only score by Carolina, as Anaheim would retake the lead at 13:08 in the 2nd as Sami Vatanen scored with assists by Getzlaf and Hagelin. The 3rd period would be all about the Ducks, as Carl Hagelin scored at 16:11 and Ryan Getzlaf made his first goal of the season at 19.00. Anaheim were penalized three times, while the Hurricanes had no penalties for the game. Hagelin would end the game with a goal and two assists, as Anton Khudobin made 24 saves to get the Ducks back in their winning ways.

November 17th- Versus Nashville Predators

It was a rough first period, as the Predators outscored the Ducks 2-1. Nashville’s Shea Weber would score first at 9:33, with assists by Josi and Ribeiro. Anaheim would strike back, as Rickard Rakell tied the game at 10:47 with assists by Fowler and Vatanen. But Nashville would take the lead at 13:13  when James Neal scored with no assists. The 2nd period would be all Nashville as Miikka Salomaki scored at 6:13 with an assist from Ekholm. The Ducks would score once more at 5:33 as Mike Santorelli scored by assists from Bieksa and Maroon. Anaheim put 40 shots on the net, but it wasn’t enough as Anaheim fell to Nashville 3-2. The game was a milestone for Ryan Kesler, as it was his 100th game as a Duck.

November 19th- Versus Florida Panthers

With the third road game, Anaheim took to Florida as they took on the Panthers. The 1st period was all quiet with no scores from either side. Anaheim would strike first, as Cam Fowler scored at 16:39 with assists by Perry and Getzlaf. The 3rd would be a shoot out, as Anaheim’s Andrew Cogliano scored first at 14:41 with an assist by Horcoff. Florida would answer back at 16:08 as Aleksander Barkov made it 2-1 with assists by Smith and Jagr. At 18:52, Anaheim would make it 3-1 as Jakob Silfverberg scored the last goal of the game with Getzlaf and Vatanen on assists. It was a hard fought win at the BB&T Center, as the Ducks swept the season series against Florida, having won against the Panthers earlier in November.

November 21st- Versus Tampa Bay Lightning

The last road game of the week took the Ducks into Tampa to whether the storm against the lightning. Neither team could score in the 1st period, but the Lightning would strike three times in the 2nd period, as Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos scored: Kucherov at 5:57 with assists by Sustr and Vermin, and then Stamkos scoring twice in the period, one off of a Power Play. In the 3rd period, the hits continues as Tampa Bay scored two more goals; one at 5:29 from Brian Boyle with an assist by J.T. Brown, and the second at 10:01 on a Power Play by Jonathan Marchessault with assists by Kucherov and Stamkos. The Ducks were unable to answer as Anaheim fell 0-5 in their last road game on the stretch.

The Ducks returns home for their next game, as they take on the Calgary Flames on Tuesday in Anaheim.
