(Victorville)— The holidays are almost here- but for many, this is an extremely difficult season. Taylion Academy’s Student Council is looking to help make the winter months a little brighter for those in need with their Clothing and Canned Food Drive.

Running from now until December 15th, Taylion is accepting canned food and gently used clothing, preferably winter clothes. The collected items will be donated to local agencies to help those in need, directly in the High Desert community. Student Council Advisor Phillip Gutierrez is leading the student body in their efforts.

“We get to teach the kids to help other people and give back to the community they grew up in,” said Gutierrez. “We see how hard it is around the holiday season; we see it in the community, we see it with some of our students, and the students really want to help make the holidays a little better.”

“This is what we are here for,” said Taylion High Desert Director David Mancha. “We are here to reach out to the community and help people.”

The student initiative aims to collect as much as possible. The Student Council has a strong, dedicated group of students ranging from grades 7-12. Joshua K. has been a part of the Student Council since the 2014-2015 school year, and sees the importance of the students doing their part to give back.

“Its important for the Taylion student council to help out the community,” said Joshua. “During the winter season, the weather gets harsh and without food and warm clothes, it can be a very hard time.”

Donations are being accepted at the Victorville site, located at 14196 Amargosa Road, Suites C & D in Victorville. For more information on the Student Council, visit Taylion online at www.taylionhighdesert.com. Also on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
