(Victorville) – On January 27th, the Victorville City Library held a ribbon cutting ceremony for 31 new public computers.  The new computers were purchased through the efforts of the Friends of the Library, a non-profit group that supports programs of the Victorville City Library.  Additional staff computers were also purchased for a total of 38 new and improved computers provided to the City Library.

During the ribbon cutting ceremony, Victorville Mayor Gloria Garcia shared the City’s appreciation to the Friends of the Library, and stated, “The Friends of the Library are a vital part of the Victorville City Library.  Each year they assist the Library by financially supporting programs such as the Summer Reading Program and Teen Programming.  They are the reason the Library is able to purchase a variety of DVDs, ranging from popular blockbusters to diverse foreign films.”

Mayor Garcia went on to say, “The Friends of the Library have outdone themselves with this gift of 38 new computers for the City Library.  Without their support, having this many new computers at one time would not have happened.”

Prior to the upgrade, the Library’s had 29 computers available for the public to use.  In 2015, these computers were utilized by approximately 16,500 Library visitors.  The computers are used to provide weekly Library sponsored computer classes, as well as by individuals doing research, writing resumes, or seeking employment.
