(Apple Valley) – Liberty Utilities – Apple Valley, formerly Apple Valley Ranchos Water Company, announced today that a water main extension connecting two separate water systems in Yermo has now been completed and put into service.

The $512,000 project included installation of nearly 1 mile of durable 12-inch ductile iron pipe and five new fire hydrants along Yermo Road from Frontier Avenue to Dividing Line Street. The new pipeline connects a small, separate piece of the Yermo water system to the larger portion of the system, greatly improving water service reliability for the entire area.

“This main extension is one of several projects that Liberty Utilities – Apple Valley is undertaking to improve water supply and water quality in Yermo,” said Tony Penna, General Manager. “Prior to this extension, if one system had a failure due to mechanical issues or if there were water quality concerns, the customers in that area would be out of water until the problem was resolved,” he continued. “Now, the entire system can be served by facilities on either side in the event of a failure, and water service disruptions will be minimized.”

Additional projects for the Yermo water system are planned for the near future, including installation of a new 5,000-gallon, hydro-pneumatic tank for water storage scheduled for later this month.

Questions regarding the Yermo water system and planned improvements can be directed to Carol Thomas-Keefer, Superintendent of Operations at (760) 247-6484.
