(Hesperia)– On Tuesday Feb 2nd San Bernardino County Fire District placed into service a 2008 Pierce Quint Aerial Ladder Truck at Fire Station 304 in the City of Hesperia. This apparatus was previously owned by Southern California Edison and protected the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station in Orange County, which was closed in 2012. It was purchased used for $376,000 with only 15,000 accrued miles. A brand new apparatus of this type would have a purchase price well over $800,000. This new ladder truck replaces a 1999 E-One with over 200,000 miles. The old truck 304 will be retired from service.
County Fire is home to six Ladder trucks three of which serve the High Desert. In addition to truck 304. truck 311 and 314 serve the city of Victorville. A Quint is a type of fire apparatus that carries a water tank , full compliment of hose as well as ground ladders and an aerial ladder to reach upper stories and even the roof a multi-story structure. Truck companies also carry a compliment of additional rescue equipment including hydraulic rescue tools and rope rescue equipment, forcible entry tools, chain saws and rotary saws.
