(Victor Valley) – Six teams made up of local community leaders are preparing for battle on February 27th, as they get ready to compete in the first ever EPIC High Desert Lip Sync Competition presented by the Victor Valley College Foundation. The rivalry show-down will take place during the 2016 Alumni Hall of Fame and Distinguished Service Awards and the champions will win the coveted “Golden Mic” award. Every year, the event inducts a former Victor Valley College Alumni, as well as honors local individuals for their commitment to education and our community. For the fifth year in a row, the event which is presented by Desert Valley Hospital/Desert Valley Medical Group is completely sold out!
Like many of the widely known singing competitions on national television, our participants are vying for votes to come out on top. However, the votes for these local performances will come in the form of donations dedicated to each team and the campus clubs they support.
Teams participating in the event:
- Caroll and Denny Yule – supporting Phi Theta Kappa
- Eric and Cindie Schmidt – supporting Veterans Club
- Gabe and Anna Lovato – supporting VVC Rotaract Club
- Paul and Amy Stanton – supporting VVC Nursing Alumni
- Roger and Stacy Wagner – supporting Model United Nations
- Bill and Linda Scott – supporting Puente Club
“At Victor Valley College we have very talented students working towards improving their futures,” said Herbert L. English, Jr., Associate Dean of Student Equity and Success. ”Recruiting students to partner with our community members helps to improve not just academic success but life success as well.
The VVC Foundation Student Success Fund initiative was created to improve educational services and programs at Victor Valley College. “This fund provides resources the College can use to offer tutors, fund more hands on educational experiences, and provide additional support services that give students the hand up they need to finish their degree or certificate programs,” said Executive Director of the Foundation Ginger Ontiveros. “This impact on student success is more powerful with philanthropic support because your gifts tell students they are worth our investment. The fact that these individuals are willing to put themselves out there in the lip sync competition makes their support for students even more meaningful.”
