(Victor Valley)— On June 17th, Taylion High Desert Academy celebrated the graduation of 24 seniors from both their Victorville and Adelanto locations for the Class of 2016.

“My challenge to each of you and to myself,” said senior speaker Merceda Benjamin during her speech at the graduation ceremony, “is to do all that you can do to reach your full potential.”

The ceremony was held at the High Desert Church in Victorville, and was a reflection of all the accomplishments the graduating class has achieved in their educational journey. The ceremony featured three senior speakers, as well as a kindergarten promotion for Taylion’s single kindergartener, Jace Guzman, who was promoted to the first grade. The guest speaker for the ceremony was current Adelanto City Council Member Charlie Glasper, who addressed the class of 2016 on the present and future.

Graduate Tanya Walby on her journey to graduation, “I had a son by the time I was a junior, and that kind of stopped me from going to school. That is when I moved up here and found Taylion. It fit my schedule, they worked around me, and the school was very interested in what I wanted and my goals.”

The Taylion High Desert Academy Class of 2016 is composed of students from both Adelanto and Victorville locations, all from varying backgrounds, and all with diverse plans for the future.

Everyone has worked so hard to overcome so many barriers, it was an honor to shake their hands and congratulate them on this momentous accomplishment. We must celebrate our successes in life, and that is what our graduation ceremony was: a celebration.”
