(Victorville) – Since the launch of its Summer Reading Program, the Victorville City Library has been “booking.”  The Library, which normally welcomes between 700 and 800 visitors each day, welcomed more than 1,000 patrons the first day of its Summer Reading Program, June 6.

The Summer Reading Program will continue through July 29, and sign-ups will be taken until July 22.  The program is open to all ages, from infant to adult, and offers great weekly incentives and prizes to all of the participating active readers who meet their reading goals.

“The Summer Reading Program is a wonderful program that promotes literacy, and encourages curiosity, and lifelong interest for learning,” stated Karen Everrett, Victorville City Librarian.  “Statistically, these readers ultimately contribute greatly to the economic, social and cultural health of the communities in which they live.”

The Victorville City Library recently received a big boost from two different sources.  A grant from Dollar General in the amount of $1,500 for use in its Summer Reading Program will allow the Library to purchase books to be given to children and teen participants who meet their weekly reading goals.

In addition, the Friends of the Victorville City Library (FOL) recently partnered with the Victorville Barnes & Noble on a fundraiser which resulted in $1,200 being raised to purchase additional books and prizes for the Summer Reading Program.  This is the second successful fundraiser between the FOL and Barnes & Noble with the Library being the thankful recipient of their endeavors.

“The Victorville City Library is a special asset to this community.  It provides learning resources as well as a quiet place to entertain your imagination,” shared Victorville Mayor Gloria Garcia.  “We are thrilled by the response to our Summer Reading Program and very grateful for the generous support from both Dollar General and the Friends of the Library fundraiser with Barnes and Noble.”

To register for the Summer Reading Program, contact the Victorville City Library located at 15011 Circle Dr. in Victorville.  The hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  For more information about the Victorville City Library call (760) 245-4222.
