(Victor Valley)—Following a productive summer of preparations, Taylion High Desert Academy staff are excited for the 2016-2017 school year, as we welcome progressive and new workshops, programs, and an interim director.

Evelyn Sandoval has been named the Interim Director for Taylion High Desert Academy, but she is not new to the organization or the world of education. Formerly a teacher at Taylion’s San Bernardino location, Sandoval was also a respected and loved teacher at a local school in Adelanto before joining the Taylion team.

Sandoval has worked in the educational field since 2008. A first generation college graduate, her parents were both immigrants from Mexico, which made English Sandoval’s second language. Education has been a constant theme throughout her life, as has the urge to teach. “I became a teacher because I wanted to teach,” said Sandoval. “Not any particular subject, but I wanted to teach simply for the joy of teaching.”

The new school year will bring about new changes, as well as new and modern resources for not only students, but for their acquaintances and families as well.

“There’s so many things I am excited for with this new school year,” said Sandoval. “I am excited for the change in dynamics in regards to how teachers meet with their students- I believe it will be very effective. I am excited to put students first in the planning of community activities, parent involvement, and in every aspect of the school. I look forward to building more partnerships and to help strengthen our community. I am just excited about the entire school year as a whole. “

Additions to this school year include a variety of workshops, ranging from academic workshops to improve basic skills in Math, English and Reading, to career exploration workshops, which will instill skills needed to move forward in enrolling into higher education, finding employment in the local workforce, or both. Workshops are already being planned to have local colleges come out to a Taylion location and inform us of the variety of programs they offer, as well as workshops to assist with financial aide and more.
