(Victorville) – On Oct. 3, the City of Victorville began its project to improve portions of Bear Valley and Amargosa Roads.  Specifically, this road improvement project will focus in two areas:  Bear Valley Road from Mariposa Road to 300 feet west of Amargosa Road, and Amargosa Road from El Tio Pepe to Applebee’s on Restaurant Row.  Work is expected to end before Thanksgiving.

City officials encourage motorists to avoid the construction area and use alternate routes throughout the duration of this project.  For example, people headed to Restaurant Row can exit Main Street in Hesperia then travel Amargosa northbound to avoid the construction zone.  The La Mesa/Nisqualli exit can be used to access Victor Valley Mall and surrounding businesses via southbound Amargosa Road.  Additionally, Nisqualli Road should be used as an alternate route for westbound traffic to access the I-15.

Travel will be permitted through the construction zone, but lanes will be reduced and traffic patterns will be altered.  As with the City’s most recent construction project on Bear Valley Road, two lanes will be open for traffic during the day and one lane will be open at night.  Traffic signals will remain operational during the day and flashing red at night.

In addition to repairing deteriorating sections of the roadway, the City will install ADA-compliant sidewalks; repair curbing; upgrade traffic signals; and add a right-turn lane from southbound Amargosa Road onto westbound Bear Valley Road.

On Oct. 3, construction crews began their work to build a retaining wall at the intersection of Amargosa and Bear Valley Roads, near the El Tio Pepe Restaurant.  The City of Victorville will continue to release progress updates regarding this project on its website at www.victorvilleca.gov and on Facebook at /CityofVictorville.
