(Victorville) – An outpouring of support for well-known high school counselor, Carol Pulice, has resulted in an endowment established in her name with the Victor Valley College Foundation. The scholarship benefiting Apple Valley High School graduates attending Victor Valley College, will forever be kept in perpetuity with the Foundation.
Following the passing of Pulice, her husband Sam, also a well-known community member and business owner in the High Desert, set up a scholarship as a tribute to honor his late wife. The family asked that in lieu of flowers for her private memorial services, donations be made to the Foundation. In just three short weeks, the funding for the scholarship quickly grew to over $10,000.
“We are all grieving the loss of a very special friend,” said Victor Valley College Foundation Board President, Eric Schmidt. “Carol touched countless lives and made an enormous impact on all of us with her sweet personality and compassionate spirit. She will be greatly missed.”
Local students who qualify for the scholarship, will be working towards a career in teaching and or counseling. “What a better way to remember this incredible person than to award the scholarship students who share the same passion as Carol,” said Victor Valley College Foundation Executive Director, Catherine Abbott. “Every year, during the Foundation’s annual scholarship ceremony in June, Carol’s name will be announced and we will all get to meet the student who received funding as a result of the endowment.”
During the ceremony, the memorial scholarship recipient will also have the opportunity to meet the family and personally thank them for helping them to achieve their educational dreams. “The impact on student success is more powerful with philanthropic support because your gifts tell our students they are worth our investment,” said Abbott.
