(Victorville)—Honoring its long term tradition of giving back—the 1,200 member High Desert Association of REALTORS® (HDAR) and its affiliates recently held two separate fund raisers that yielded over $8,000 to support local charities. One charity getting help in a big way is the Assistance League’s School Bells Program®.
“One event allowed our realtors and affiliates to purchase 100 backpacks and filled them all with school supplies,” said Serena Whyte, Association President. In addition to the backpacks, $1,500 was donated for the Assistance League® to determine how best to use the funds to serve the community.
“Realtors live throughout the High Desert and we have a vested interest to help improve the quality of life for our residents,” Whyte added. Throughout the Association’s history, HDAR has strived especially hard to support the needs of the High Desert communities it serves.
“We are very grateful for the generous donation from the Association of Realtors and the wonderful backpacks filled with school supplies”, said Kathie Bordonaro, Assistance League President. Operation School Bell® shopping events have benefitted children from schools throughout the Victor Valley.
“All contributions we receive help us meet the needs of more children in our community and put a smile on more faces,” added Bordonaro.
The HDAR sponsors several fundraising events each year, other charities supported in the past in addition to the Assistance League’s School Bells Program® include the Salvation Army, American Red Cross, High Desert Homeless Shelter, High Desert Domestic Violence, Happy Trails Foundation, and Desert Sanctuary Inc./Haley House.
High Desert Association of REALTORS® original charter was May 22, 1948. Originally named Mojave Valley Board of REALTORS®, in 1958 it became the Victor Valley Board of REALTORS®. On June 1, 2014 the Victor Valley and Barstow Association of REALTORS® merged forming the High Desert Association of REALTORS®. Today, the gavel that was presented to the Mojave Valley Board of REALTORS® in 1948 is still used at all Board of Director meetings.
