(Hesperia)– Victor Valley Transit Authority begins new fixed route bus service to Oak Hills on Monday, October 24. VVTA Route 24
will become the first route to serve the unincorporated area Oak Hills and will connect residents to education opportunities as well as medical, social service, retail services, and entertainment venues.
The route provides daily service to the county region of Oak Hills and a portion of the City of Hesperia. Operating every two hours, Route 24 spans 27 miles roundtrip and features 73 bus stops, including 17 stops that are new to the transit system.
“Public transportation helps connect our Oak Hills community to opportunity,” said San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors Vice Chair and VVTA Board Member, Robert Lovingood. “The design of the new bus route will help residents get to schools, commercial centers, and transportation hubs.”The route serves Hesperia Walmart, San Joaquin Valley College, and four high schools, including Oak Hills High School, Hesperia High School, Mojave High School, and Sultana High School.
“We are excited to have this opportunity for students to have reliable public transportation to support their efforts to complete their college education,” said Richard Matley, San Joaquin Valley College Hesperia Campus Director. “Public transportation removes a major barrier for student success. These local resources are necessary in building a stronger community of successful professionals.”
The route connects four bus routes at the Hesperia Post Office, including VVTA Routes 44, 45, 46, and 48.
Flag down bus stop service is available in the county section of the route, which includes the area north of Cedar Street on Escondido Avenue and Mariposa Road as well as Ranchero Road. County Fare is required for boarding or alighting in the county area. Fixed Route Fare is available elsewhere on the route. Discount Fare, which requires proper identification, is available for students, seniors, military veterans, the disabled, and those on Medicare.
