(Apple Valley)– Getting healthy doesn’t have to be boring…or hard. Find out how fun it can be on Feb. 25 when the Town of Apple Valley Recreation Department hosts the Heart Games.
Now in its sixth year, this annual event is an exciting opportunity for residents to enjoy a fun competition while getting their heart rate up. There are 10 activity checkpoints scattered across Civic Center Park, designed to accommodate all age groups and athletic ability.
“The Heart Games is not just a fun activity, it is part of a larger health movement that keeps getting bigger and better each year,” said Heart Games Coordinator, Lena Quinonez. “Friends, families and coworkers can get together and rally around health while having a good time.”
New checkpoints this year include soul line dancing, tennis and golf. While the goal of the event is to get people out and moving, it is also designed to make new friendships and learn how to keep a healthy strong heart.
“Some of our kids teams started with us when they were in elementary and are now returning as middle school teams,” said Lena. “We also have groups of parents and kids that compete fiercely against each other. It’s the lively team spirit that makes the event so great!”
At the Heart Games, the first team back isn’t necessarily the winner. Teams have opportunities throughout the park to collect extra points and the team with the most points at the end of the game wins!
Heart Games accommodates about 150 players and is only held once a year. Teams from small businesses, health organizations and the Town’s After School Activities Program have already registered. Registration is $10 per person. Email HealthyAV@applevalley.org or visit AVRecreation.org for more information on registration or sponsorship opportunities.
