City of Victorville to Launch $11.3 M Road Rehabilitation Project

By Staff Reports

(Victorville) – Today, the City of Victorville announced that its large-scale rehabilitation of La Mesa, Nisqualli and Amethyst Roads will begin May 8.  The City plans to rehabilitate 9.6 miles of roadway; install new sidewalks, curbs and access ramps; and add new water services and sewer laterals; and add 11.1 center-line miles (22.2 miles total) of bike lanes.

The construction zone for this $11.3 M project includes La Mesa Road from El Rio Road to Cantina Drive, Nisqualli Road from Balsam Road to Hesperia Road, and Amethyst Road from Bear Valley Road to Mojave Drive.  Work is expected to be complete before the end of August.

According to City officials, project goals include improved road conditions, increased safety and infrastructure improvements.  In addition, repairs to the deteriorated roadway are necessary now before traffic volumes on La Mesa Road increase when this major artery is connected to US-395 later this year.

Throughout the duration of the project, one lane in each direction will be open to traffic; and striping will be done at night.  Amethyst Road near Liberty Elementary School and Discovery School of the Arts will remain open until after the end of the school year on June 7.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes if possible.  Anyone who must travel through the construction zone is advised to allot additional time, use caution, and obey directional signs and instructions from crew members on site.

In order to complete the project as quickly as possible and to minimize the impact on the community, crews will work in various locations throughout the construction zone simultaneously; and as a cost-savings measure, the City will re-use and recycle as much of the existing roadway pavement as possible to save construction costs.
