Job Satisfaction: 3 Points to Ponder

By Staff Reports

(DGIwire) – Everyone wants job satisfaction but nobody is exactly sure how to secure it. In part, satisfaction on the job is dependent on factors that workers can’t control: the work/life balance at their organization; how their managers choose to motivate them; what tasks they are delegated. But that doesn’t mean workers have no control over their happiness at the workplace. Here are a few questions that can help workers focus more clearly on what they should be doing with their lives:

  • Workers’ motivations: What did a worker dream about doing when they were a kid? What would they do if they didn’t have to worry about making money? Making lists of the above will reveal commonalities in general skills that are most likely the worker’s strengths.
  • Workers’ natural talents: What do people most appreciate about a worker and what they do? What are the unique skills they have that people comment on at work or at home? What traits do they possess that they excel in? For example, are they always being thanked for their insight, objectivity or organizational skills?
  • Workers’ values: What does a worker value in their job? Do they appreciate the ability to work independently or is a team working environment something they value more? Do they prefer constantly learning new skills or do they value having the opportunity to really fine-tune one particular skill?

“The combined answers to such questions can guide a worker in their job search and will help them figure out if they’re on the right path or way off course,” says Michele Mavi, director of internal recruiting and content development at Atrium Staffing. “The good news is, if they are off course, they now have a road map to get them back on track.”

Atrium is a New York City-based talent solutions firm, focused on providing contingent workforce solutions for mid-size and Fortune 500 companies in nearly every industry. Atrium’s expertise includes regional Temporary and Direct Hire Staffing, national Payrolling Services, national Independent Contractor Compliance and Intern Program Design. The company has extensive experience matching the right candidates for a range of positions within a variety of industries.

“Each worker has their own specific background and preferences, and these will ultimately determine the best course of action when it comes to pursuing job satisfaction,” Mavi adds. “Once they know more precisely what sort of job environment they are looking for, working with a staffing agency with a wide range of insight can be the next step toward securing that next great position.”
