(Victor Valley)– The John M. Pfau Library at Cal State San Bernardino has introduced a new service: one-to-one research consultations with a librarian, available to all CSUSB students, staff and faculty.
During a consultation, which are offered in 30-minute sessions, a librarian will ask for more details about your assignment or project, including what research you have conducted so far. Based on this information, the librarian will then assist you in developing your search strategy, helping you select the most relevant databases and sources for your research topic.
“One-to-one research consultation is a vital resource for the entire campus community, especially for graduate and undergraduate students who are conducting research at the advanced level,” said Cesar Caballero, dean of the Pfau Library. “Faculty members could also benefit from the new service, which our highly trained librarians, each with discipline-specific research expertise, are happy to provide.”
To get the most of a consultation, bring your assignment (syllabus, handout, etc.), a notepad, and any books, articles or citations you have found so far. Students should bring their Coyote OneCard and be prepared to print or save any search results.
Making an appointment is easy and convenient; simply visit the appointment webpage to schedule a date and time. You also have the option to choose a librarian who specializes in your discipline. Faculty should select their departmental liaison librarian. Appointments must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Should you need to cancel your consultation, your confirmation email will include a link to do so.
If you can’t find a suitable time for a consultation, we have drop-in research assistance and telephone service (909-537-5091) at the Pfau Library Research Assistance Desk on the first floor of the library. You can also email a librarian, text (909-542-8990), chat online with a librarian or use the self-help resources.
