(Victor Valley)– The Cal State San Bernardino Reentry Initiative will announce on Friday, Jan. 19, a new partnership with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department to assist the formerly incarcerated re-enter society.
Details of the new program, the Sheriff’s Parole-Reintegration Program, will be unveiled when CSRI hosts an open house at its new San Bernardino location, 250 S. Lena Road. The program begins at 11 a.m.
Scheduled to attend are Scott Kernan, secretary, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation; Shannon Dicus, assistant sheriff, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department; Josie Gonzales, San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, 5th District; Jay Fiene, dean of the CSUSB College of Education; and Carolyn Eggleston, professor emeritus, CSUSB College of Education, executive director CSRI.
CSRI, created in 2010, is a partnership between Cal State San Bernardino and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation that gives state parolees a path to success and away from a return to prison. It has assisted about 5,000 parolees who have returned to the counties of San Bernardino and Riverside.
The mission of CSRI is to help individuals who are on active parole return to the community and become productive members of society. “We do this by providing a supportive, caring, and respectful environment,” according to its program brochure. “CSRI gives hope to formerly incarcerated through change and opportunity.”
It offers a myriad of programs, including transitional housing, sober living, anger management, health education, job and career development, life skills and educational and vocational programing.
In addition to the San Bernardino location, CSRI has centers in Victorville, Moreno Valley, and Indio.
