(Adelanto)– The filing period to declare as a candidate for the Adelanto City Council Special Election ends Thursday, March 8, 2017. According to Cindy Herrera, City Clerk, as of February 22 seven residents have pulled papers with the intention to run for the Council seat vacated by former Mayor Pro Tem Jermaine Wright, but names aren’t revealed until all their paperwork has been verified the City Clerk’s office and the Registrar of Voters.
Anyone interested in filling the vacancy must:
- Have been an Adelanto resident for at least thirty (30) days preceding the date of the election at which he/she desires to be a candidate for such elective office;
- Must collect a minimum of 20 signatures from registered voters in order to qualify, and
- Pay a $25 filing fee
Candidates who would like to have a candidate statement included in the Voter Information Guide and Sample Ballot booklet must pay a separate fee of $367.
Residents who plan to vote in the June 5 Primary Election must be registered to vote no later Monday, May 21. Voter registration forms are available at City Hall or through the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters.
