Brad Letner Tapped as Adelanto’s Acting City Manager

By Staff Reports

(Adelanto)—In a unanimous 4-0 vote, the Adelanto City Council appointed Spring Valley Lake resident Brad Letner as Acting City Manager during its Wednesday night Council meeting.  Letner, who replaces Interim City Manager Michael Milhiser who departed last month, announced in April that he was stepping down as President/CEO of the Hesperia Chamber of Commerce as soon as a replacement was hired, which coincidentally happened this week.

“We needed someone who is a proven leader to help guide the city and staff and Brad happened to be the right person at the right time,” said Richard Kerr, Adelanto Mayor.

Despite the lack of experience as a City Manager, Kerr indicated that Letner’s wealth of military leadership experience, leading large organizations with crucial missions and managing complex programs at the national and international level—is what led the Council to tap Letner for the job.

“I am very grateful for this opportunity. It is exactly what I was looking for when I retired from the Army – a chance to continue a life of service locally using the experience and training I acquired from serving our nation,” said Letner.   “Adelanto is an incredible success story, facing the complex issues that come with rapid growth. I’m excited to support the great work being done by the City staff under the leadership of our Mayor and City Council,” he added.

“Brad has been an integral part of the High Desert for close to 20-years, serving on the Adelanto School Board, volunteering for Brentwood Elementary School’s PTA, St. Joseph Health, St. Mary’s charitable foundation board and Victorville Rotary Club and he understands the issues facing Adelanto and the High Desert,” said Kerr.

Originally from Battle Creek, Michigan, Letner holds a master’s degree in communication from Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor, Michigan and also is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.

Kerr indicated that Letner’s status is as Acting, not Interim, City Manager, and there’s no specific time period he might serve in the role. Letner will be working full-time and his employment takes effect immediately.
