(Adelanto)– Tired of fighting traffic driving to Angels and Dodgers games to see professional baseball? You’re in luck…the High Desert Yardbirds professional baseball is set to start its second season in the High Desert at Adelanto Stadium, and have planned several activities leading up the season opener on Sunday, May 27.
First up is a pre-season scrimmage game with the Monterey Amberjacks on Saturday, May 19 at 6:00 p.m. This will be the only game starting at 6:00 in the 63-game season. The Yardbirds will play 35 home games with the season ending Thursday July 26. To see the season schedule visit www.highdesertyardbirds.com or the calendar section of www.adelantostadium.com.
Also planned for May 19 is the first-ever Kids Camp, targeting kids of all ages who are playing baseball or simply interested in learning about the game. “This will be a baseball-clinic type experience where kids have the opportunity to work side-by-side with the players, and they will be grouped depending on the age and experience level and given special instructions,” said Stadium Manager Aaron Korn.
The inaugural Kids Camp will start at 9:00 a.m. and could last an hour-and-a-half to two-hours at a cost of $30. All proceeds from Kids Camp registrations go directly to the players. To register visit www.highdesertyardbirds.com.
Korn indicated that all home game tickets sell for $8.00, including the pre-season scrimmage game. “Seating will remain unassigned, and children ages 6 and under are admitted free,” he added. General Admission season tickets go for $200. “We’re hoping that people will come out and support the Pecos League Champions and enjoy some fun baseball,” said Korn.
The Yardbirds’ first home game is Sunday, May 27 against the Bakersfield Train Robbers. The team’s ceremonial season opener is two-days later on May 29 versus the California City Whiptails. “The Adelanto Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a mixer before the ceremonial game,” said Korn.
Korn says that the team has planned special promotions throughout the season to encourage to fans to attend, including:
· Thirsty Thursdays,
· Taco Tuesdays,
· Wienie Wednesdays, and
· Family Feast Fridays
