Caltrans Promotes Active Transportation During Bike Month

(Victor Valley)– Caltrans has ambitious goals to double walking and transit use, while tripling bicycling by 2020. Supporting active and multi-modal transportation plays a key role in maximizing the effectiveness of California’s transportation system, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and improving safety for bicyclists and pedestrians.

In this Caltrans News Flash, Chief Deputy Director Ryan Chamberlain joins regional partners on a bike tour of new active transportation infrastructure in Sacramento.

Last year, Caltrans adopted its first statewide bicycle and pedestrian plan, Toward an Active California, which lays out policies and actions to support active modes of transportation. Senate Bill 1 (SB 1) will provide $1 billion in funding over the next decade to improve access and safety for active transportation projects in local neighborhoods and around the state highway system.
